Writing Prompt: False Identity

Write a story or a portion of a story where your main character is mistaken for somebody else. Decide on a reason for your character to take on the role of this person, and take the story from there.

  1. Length: 1 scene, or a full-length story.
  2. Don’t focus too much on setting up the scene.
  3. Try to extend moments of mistaken identity.
  4. Explore the ability to control competing emotions.

Remember that guidelines are just that: guidelines. If you find yourself going in a different direction with this story, embrace the moment and go where the story takes you.
